What Christmas gifts can I make at home to give to co-workers or friends?

I am looking for something small, yet creative to make as holiday presents for co-workers. I work with men as well as women. I need a good idea, not some kid type craft. (I was looking at making etched glass ornaments, but I'm not sure how that would go), I'd love lots of ideas. Something classy since I work with professional people. Any help you can give would be most appreciated.

What Christmas gifts can I make at home to give to co-workers or friends?
The most popular Christmas gift I've ever given was a small basket of homemade salsa with gourmet chips on the side.

Salsa is extremely easy (and inexpensive) to make, and the home made varieties taste unlike anything you can get in the store. Salsa can be home canned in a large soup pot, and decorated with raffia and hand made gift tags.

For something totally creative, make your own labels as well.

During the Holidays, many people just don't have the time to cook anymore, and those hand-made gourmet food gifts always seem to be much appreciated.
Reply:For women, anything knitted might be nice... But then again, since you work with "professional" people... But still, it makes a nice gift... As for guys... well, I'm not sure cause I've never actually given a gift to a guy (except to crushes on Valentines, but even then, it was only a card that said "P.S. I love you!) but etched glass ornaments sounds really classy =D. Don't even know what it is, actually. But I'm sure either way, you'll make them smile =D. Christmas isn't about what you give, it's just about giving =D. So loosen up! =D And early early early Merry Christmas!!! =D.
Reply:homemade xmas cookies in a nice decorative wrap
Reply:What about making everyone some cool sets magnets out of those flat glass beads that are used to fill vases? Here's a link with instructions; everyone has their own way of making them, so there's room to improvise... you can use patterned scrapbook paper or cardstock for the images; I like to go through old text books from the 60's and '70's for pictures, too. I think the etched glass is a good idea too!!

Reply:If you knit or crochet, try making small felted items with multicolored yarns in them--like cell phone holders, iPod holders, business card cases/displays, eyeglass cases, small bowls for change. They're unique, not a lot of needlework, easy to personalize, and if you choose multicolors, the yarns do lots of the work for you--your products look really great, not at all kid crafty.
Reply:food gifts in a jar are always popular and welcome by most people. you can do cookie or brownie mixes in a jar, hot cocoa mix in a jar or soup mixes in a jar. i make bean soup mix in a jar by layering a variety of dry beans in a quart canning jar and adding a small zip lock packet of dried onions, ham or beef flavor soup base (like powdered boullion). i tie a label on the jar with instructions (1 jar soup mix and 4 jars water). i make my own labels and personalize them. another welcome gift is hand made candles. i buy small glass or tin containers or use pint canning jars and melt, color and scent the wax and pour, again addind a handmade personal label. candle colors and scents are available at any craft store.
Reply:I have a friend that paints and etches wine and liquor bottles. She is the marketing/advertising director of a fairly large grocery chain. I see her work everywhere, so the people must like them to display them so openly.
Reply:Maybe some of those wine glass charms. I'm pretty sure the materials are cheap and it looks like anyone could make them.
Reply:christmas time is surpose to be fun so one year i took a photo of each person with out them knowing , and then just put it in a fram and handed them to each person , when they open the present up on xmas day , i am sure you will get a big smile from each one of them , because you have captured them without them knowing , have a good one
Reply:I would buy a case of inexpensive wine, make up some personalized labels (i.e.: personalize them to the people you're giving them to.... for the lady that likes to shop make up a "shop 'til you drink" label....for the sports guy make a "football fanatic" label, etc.)

Then to add an extra special touch, I would make some of those wine glass charms. You can buy packages of the little rings at your local craft store (or make your own out of wire), then buy packages of charms..... attach them to the rings with a jump ring. The special touch would be to, for instance, put with the "shop 'til you drop" bottle all charms of little purses, and for the sports guy, little footballs or other sports charms.

This all requires easy-to-find and fairly inexpensive supplies.

Good luck! :)
