When is it appropriate to buy graduation gifts?

I have a huge family, and this year alone I have 1 cousin graduating college, 2 cousins graduating high school, 3 cousins graduating junior high, and one graduating kindergarten.

I am proud of all of them, but am I expected to buy gifts for them all?

When is it appropriate to buy graduation gifts?
easy...graduating kindergarten? that kid's got a LONG road before you need to worry about their present...

3 kids graduating JHS? smack on the back...good job..in 4 yrs..i'll get you something worth your while...

so you really have 3 presents to buy...1 that has to be decent because he graduated from college and something halfway decent for the HS grads..
Reply:Someone asked once what the disadvantages of a large extended family and I answered something about gifts for birthdays, etc. I think I forgot about graduations.

I think cards are adequate in this situation, but I don't know your family. I hardly see my neices and nephews, who are spread throughout the country. My cousins? We never exchanged gifts of any sort. I wouldn't have dreamed of getting them a graduation gift of any sort.

But again, it's not my family. I hope they don't bankrupt you!
Reply:I think gifts for just the college and high school grads should be sufficient. Since they're cousins, did they or their parents get you anything when you graduated?
Reply:Buy Something small for the one leaving kindergarten.Get cards (maybe small gift cards) for the ones in junior high. As for the one leaving college. are they copletly out if so a card with cash or gift card. you dont have to spend a lot on any of them. Actually only the youngest and the one leaving college should get anything but out of courtesy...
Reply:I think you only have to worry about the highschool graduate, and if you want, the college. It's not neccessary for you to get everyone a present everytime they accomplish something in their life. Highschool is a beg deal though, and college is a pretty big deal too, but I don't think people expect to get gifts from graduating college.
Reply:is when you have enough money to by it and not too long before the event
Reply:What is "expected" has no importance, only you have the choice!
Reply:Do the best you can to get the gifts. If you're

in a financial bind, send a card and explain why you

couldn't get a gift.
Reply:i think your love and caring attitude is the best gift you can give to them instead of giving materialeistic things
Reply:A gift for the college and high school grads. I hate sounding like my mother but kids in "my day" did not get gifts for junior high! Kindergarten?@?! Give me a break... I'd take them out for a Happy Meal! LOL
Reply:if they will all have one big party, yes. get them all something small and sentimental. or donate to a charity in their names.. hahah like george did, he made up a charity. oh that was classic. im evil.
Reply:The short answer to your question is when it would be feasible for your budget. Assuming that you would like the gift to be a tangible item, get it when its on sale; depending on how long it will last.

Not-with-standing your question, as a recent grad, I appreciate gift cards/cash for graduation. A 100.00 gift card to Walmart can be indispensable. Aside from that, whose to say that someone else isn't buying the same gift that you are?

Money is very adult like, however, I am a fan of gift cards to major stores that have essentials. Remember: this will also teach an element of budgeting and necessitating.
