I am thinking of making up a basket full of various items that would be extremely useful and hopefully can help pass time during their recovery. If you have experienced the surgery, or know someone who has, what kind of stuff do you think they would really want/need after coming home from the hospital? Please share your ideas with me. Many thanks in advance!
Do you have good ideas for gifts to give a co-worker who is having gastric bypass surgery?
Ahh that is super sweet and awesome of you. Hmm let me remember what I needed when I first got mine done. If you can find some get those little 1 ounce measurement cups - I used those ALOT to see how much of something I was supposed to be eating. Try and include a little can of whey protein mix. They will need to get extra protein from here on out, and b12 so some b12 tabs might be a good idea along with extra calcium. If they are having it done "open" being cut open get them some supplies to clean and redress the wound. You will defenitely want to include some cards of support to open along the way.. day of hospital visit, day after, week after, month after, etc. They also have this thing called a Bari- Bear which helps you sit up and breathe properly after surgery to help slowly work your abs. http://www.nvo.com/teddytech/bari1buddye... Otherwise just get them a new soft comfortable pillow. And lastly the most important thing you can give is your time. They will be down and feeling like crap for quite a while so go visit them. You can print coupons for time if you want. Lastly, you can get a journal for them to keep track of their progress, include a disposable camera so they can take pictures of the weight coming off as it happens super fast! I lost 20 pounds the week I was in the hospital. No joking. That's all I can think of right now. Good luck and send this person well wishes from someone who has been there.
Reply:I agree with both the vitamins and the spending downtime with that person. Another thing that might be kind of fun to do with them while they're in the hospital is go get the mad libs books. It sounds kind of childish I realize that but oh the fun you will have.
Reply:Hi.my mom had GBS,and we got her roses and a card. You could get the person vitamins (they take them after surgey) or a giftcard to their favorite store. My mom went from a size 24 to a size 4 to 6.So yeah, her whole woredrobe didnt fit anymore. Also shoes.she wore a size 10 and is now an 8 1/2.
just think of the things that person enjoys :)
Reply:My uncle had it done, I made him a homemade card. But that might be a little personal for a co-worker. Are you good friends with them? The best thing to do is just spend time with them during their downtime. I would go with puzzle books, or if they read, maybe a new bestseller?
Reply:crossword puzzles, word searches, magazines, puzzle, paper to doodle on
Reply:Definitely not food!! Maybe get them some puzzle books (don't forget the pencils!), do you know any hobbies they have? Since they are a co-worker, do you know how good their eating habits really are? Not to be a jerk, but a lot of people get gastric bypass so they can lose weight without changing their diet. Maybe a good book on nutrition, not a diet book, a nutrition book, big difference. Will they be recovering at home? How about a trial subscription to Netflix or something like that?
