How many gifts do your kids get from relatives?

My daughter only gets gifts for Christmas from me and her dad. Since we're separated, he spends about $250.00, and I spend about $200.00.

Does this sound like too much? after all, she doen't have grandparents or aunties and uncles buying her anything.

I don't buy alot for her throughout the year, so these are things she's been wanting but I usually can't afford. And I only got half the list!

What you're doing sounds fine.

My son gets way too many gifts from relatives. His father and I are also separated. He usually gets one big present and af few smaller ones. His parents get him a lot of presents, my parents get him a lot, my sister gets him something, and so do my three aunts. I get him a lot of less expensive gifts so it looks like there's a lot under our tree on Christmas morning. The trouble is, since I have him in school or daycare 11 hours/day, he's never home to play with this toystore full of toys we have. I wish he got less, but there's really nothing I can do about it.
Reply:That sounds fine. My husband and I usually spend $200-$250 each on our son and his two kids from his first marriage, but we both have large families that get for all of them too.
Reply:no that is fine
Reply:Whatever you and your almost-ex buy for your daughter must be right for the two of you.

I would never expect to get everything I wanted for Christmas or any other time of year or occasion.

When I was a small child, we got a brand new shiny penny AND a few unexpected gifts.

We ALWAYS had to say:

"Thank you, Mom!"

"Thank you, Dad."

"Thank You, God."

In fact, our neighbors bought more things for my brother and me than my parents or anyone in our family bought for us.

Thanks for asking! I enjoyed this trip down "Memory Lane".
