How do I pack cupcakes for travelling or as gifts?

They're going to have icing on top and shredded coconut, if that makes a difference.

How do I pack cupcakes for travelling or as gifts?
If you bring one to me...dont worry about smooshing it... I'm sure I'll love it. (actually put them in or on a plastic cake lid then put the bottom part on top.)
Reply:Several stores sell carrying cases for cupcakes. I've seen them in Bed, Bath %26amp; Beyond, Walmart, A.C. Moore, Michael's Crafts, Kohls, everywhere! I think it's one of the greatest inventions ever - I use mine ALL the time! The one I have comes with a cupcake tin to bake them in. Then you can add another tier to it with a plastic carrier and then snap the lid on over the two tiers to secure them. It's wonderful! Good luck!

Here's a link to the one I have - http://www.lnt.com/sm-onieda-24-cupcake-...
Reply:well you can put the cupcakes in plastic wrap and ship them in a box. hope you pick me!
Reply:Soda flats hold 24 cupcakes perfectly.
Reply:I put them back in the pan they were baked in then set the whole pan in a cardboard box that is just a little bigger than the pan and a lot deeper. Close the lid of the box and remember what's in it so you don't set concrete blocks or a fifty pound bag of dogfood on top of it.
Reply:They sell tin cake pans with lids in all sizes perfect for traveling or gift giving at food stores. They are inexpensive and some are decorated for holidays.
Reply:put them back in the muffin tin you cooked them in and turn another tin over on top. wait... open that back up, pipe the frosting on them, and sprinkle with coconut. now cover with the other tin. use bulldog clips (those black metal things with the silver "handles" on them) to hold everything tight. make sure you have a knife (plastic is good) to help take them out.
Reply:The local craft stores carry a "traveling" case. It's made of plastic w/ sectioned off areas for cupcakes. The reverse side is for a sheet cake. Decorate w/ a bow. It's done.

Otherwise, place the cupcakes in an aluminum foil pan(such as a roasting pan)purchased at the local grocery store. Cover them w/ waxpaper THEN aluminum. Ready to go and inexpensive.
Reply:You can use christmas ornament boxes for gifts, and the pans you baked them in for transport.
Reply:Put a bit of double sided sticky tape or blu-tack on the bottoms of each of them and put them in a box well spread out for travelling. Put them in a nice box just before you give them to whoever the lucky person is that gets the cupcakes.
Reply:A cooler. Like put some ice and stuff and sit them in there.
Reply:party city sells these large plastic bins that you can put them in sorta like Tupperware i guess you should check them out they have plenty of clearance for frosting or anything you might put on top of cupcakes
Reply:My mom bought me a cupcake holder/carrying case. Its wonderful. It holds 24 cupcakes and had 3 layers to hold the cupcakes. There is also a handle to carry it with. Sounds like a suitcase, but its not! I love making cupcakes so this thing is perfect! You can get it at Wal-Mart, Bed Bath %26amp; Beyond, or Linens %26amp; Things! I think they are about 12-15 bucks!
Reply:I pack four lunches a day and my kids love cupcakes so I have come up with some interesting ways to pack them for lunches that may help with your "travel" needs.

First, do not put the icing on the top. Instead slice the cupcake's muffin top off and put a layer of frosting just under it. Replace the top and put it in a Ziploc baggie. The icing does not get all over and tastes just as good. Not as pretty however.

Second, and this is the little ones favorite. Instead of frosting it yourself just pop the cupcake into a Ziploc baggie. Use another baggie - snack size if you have it - to put the icing in. Kids can rip off a tiny corner of the icing baggie and use it as a decorating/piping bag and ice their own. (you might want to let them try this at home once dirst so that they are not clueless the first time at school.) You can put the coconut or for an extra special treat add a few sprinkles to the baggie with the cupcake in it (the sprinkles will not stick to the cupcake without the icing.). After the cupcake is iced, the kiddo will add the sprinkles.

Good luck!
Reply:Try plastic containers this way they will not be squished
Reply:heres what you have to do if at least what my family does.

put all the cupcakes in like a tin bowl and lay it below your seat when you are traveling
Reply:Well I have these special containers called cup-a-cake! I got them from gooseberry patch and I just love them! They are designed for lunchboxes, but I'm sure you can use them for this. You can buy them on they catalog's website.
Reply:here's the website address for the "cup-a-cake" the lady recommended...

http://www.cupacake.com/
Reply:Stack them on top of each other %26amp; put them in a zip-lock baggie !
Reply:no like
Reply:Tupperware sells a cupcake carrier, it holds 18 cupcakes securely. You can purchase it online.
Reply:I have seen plastic carriers made specifically for cupcakes, designed to protect that all important, precious icing from damage. WalMart carried them at one time, but I'm sure if you look around, some other store will have them. P.S. Don't pick this as best answer... just send me a cupcake.
Reply:try placing styrofoam popcorn on top!

they are very light and cause little harm!

you can find this at your local office supply store!
Reply:i bought a very sturdy cake carrier at walmart that would work.it has four locks on it and carrying handles.$5
Reply:Whenever i transport cupcakes i like to use the cardboard little box that bottled water comes packed in.You can get another one and put it on top the other one.their not too tall and hold plenty.I also wrap the box in wrapping paper to make it look nice. Good Luck!
Reply:I took the wilton cake decorating course so i make lots of cakes and cupcakes for my family and friends. Wilton makes this great cake and cupcake transporter for travelling or bringing stuff over to someone. You can find it at michaels or online really easily. It has these little circles cupcake size on the bottom which fits a cupcake perfectly (you can even turn it over and get the mini cupcake size) and there is this snap on dome plastic lid with a handle. it works every time for me!
Reply:Leave them in the cupcake pan and frost them after you arrive at your destination.
Reply:put them in a hard plastic box n keep 'em upright while you carry em 2 my door
Reply:leave them in the pan and put a top on them
Reply:I have three suggestions: Tupperware and those other plasticware makers has a cupcake carrier I beleive.

The other two suuugetions is make your own using a box and one of those plastic sock drawer dividers from a home store.

Then for the top use saran wrap held up with toothpicks that are stuck in the middle of the cupcake after frosting it.
Reply:They have travel carriers for cupcakes at many household stores(linens %26amp; things bed bath and beyond).

What should I get my best man and groomsmen as gifts?

I am wondering what to give my best man and groomsmen as gifts for the wedding? I am aware of the common ideas, flasks, cufflinks, glassware etc. but I would like some unique ideas if anyone has any? I do not want to spend a ton of money as the weddding and wedding budget is smaller. Thanks

What should I get my best man and groomsmen as gifts?
There is no rule that says you have to get them all the same thing either. My groom gave his all tie tacks but some of the best loved ones have been Best Buy gift cards.

Consider this like a birthday present...get them something unique that appeals to them. You could get them each something unique--perhaps one a giftcard to a sports store, another a DVD, another who just got married a gift card to Home Depot. Think about what makes these people your best friends.

A friend who is a hunter/fisher got his all something hunting related--bullets for their guns, a new cooler, lures, new tackle box. The idea of knives is great too.

Dorkier friends might like something Star Wars related. Are you doing a grooms cake? What is going to be on the grooms cake? A cousin is a huge Florida Gators fan--he might consider something with the National Championships on it. Perhaps if you are a big NHL or NFL fan and your team won Stanley Cup or AFC champion--you could go with something along those lines.

I'd go for something that either represents You and your friendships with them--or something specifically for them that you know they would like.
Reply:We got our groomsment gifts that were related to our wedding an also sentimental gifts just for each of them.

For example, we are having a beach wedding, and our groomsmen drink, but we dont like the idea of flasks or cufflinks etc, either, so we got them sailboat bottle openers, and one of the groomsmen my fiance fishes with, so we got him a really odd unique fishing reel. So it has sentimental value to it. cuz those two are just weird like that.

Think about the person you're giving it too.

also I bought some stuff from this sight

www.decor24.com to pass out to the attendees too because they had lots of beach stuff.

So its like gift baskets kind of, just separate things.
Reply:if you and your men enjoy a good cigar, get them cigars.
Reply:My fiance got his groomsman a nice leather flask and shot glass set from Dillards. Luckily, we got them on sale. We are saving $ by not having them engraved (costs a fortune)!
Reply:My fiance liked knives for the guys, as they are all in the blue collar line of work. But decided to get them personalized stein's instead. Flasks I think are a little unusable, but even something like the drink ware can be made more fun (like the German steins)
Reply:The best groomsmen gift my husband ever received was a set of BBQ tools. He used them for years.
Reply:We had t-shirts made for the entire wedding party. They said something to the affect of "Mollie and Ben got married and all I got was this lousy t-shirt".
Reply:I got the groomsmen different gifts. I got one a beautiful pocket knife. I got one of the younger ones in his early teens, a video game. It does not have to be the same, just something that would suit them. I would think a gift card to a resturant would be cool.
Reply:Make them a basket and theme it.

Do they like beer? BBQ? Movies? etc....

If they are a beer guy get them different kinds, snacks (like pretzels, peanuts etc.), maybe even a t-shirt.

BBQ- Get tools, coals, hickory chips, etc.

Movies- Movie money/gift cards, popcorn, sodas, candy, etc.
Reply:This site I recently found has tons of stuff all of my guy friends really seem to get excited about. I guess it appeals to the kid in them - as there are lots of fun items from guns that shoot marshmallows to soft, cute, plushy diseases (like Syphillis). They also have some unique caffeinated products and of course tons of geeky items.

They have tons of affordable things. If you wanted to give out push microbes (the diseases) they're $5.99, but if you order 5 or more you get 15% off.

I've given these to people and they're always a huge hit! I gave my friend Syphillis, I gave my doctor the Common Cold, and I gave my dogs Rabies.

That's the link right to the microbes, but you can navigate the rest of the store from their, too.

What store is the best to register for gifts for our baby shower?

We live in Wisconsin and would like to register at store that has multiple locations across the state because we have relatives throughout Wisconsin. We would like to stay away from WalMart though.

What store is the best to register for gifts for our baby shower?
Babies R Us and Target. There is usually always one or the other near everyone! If you don't want to register at both, try Target. They have great stuff and it's affordable.
Reply:Like others have said, Babies 'R' Us has all the baby gear you can think of, but I agree that it seems a little over-priced! I love Target, they have a lot of good-quality products.
Reply:Walmart is your best bet, there prices are cheaper and chances are you will get what you ask for. Babies are us are high priced and people will go somewhere else to get your gifts, so nothing on your list will matter.People will shop places that they get the best deals.
Reply:babys r us is always good

How many gifts should we give for new baby?

We gave the mother-to-be a present when she announced that she was pregnant. Then, a few weeks before the baby was born, we sent them a gift from their registry. Now that the baby is born, should we send something else?

How many gifts should we give for new baby?
That is all up to you. I got gifts all three times from some people but others I didn't get anything at all. It is a matter of if you have the money to spend or see something your really want to get for the baby then get it but if you don't then don't feel obligated. Atleast you sent 2 gifts which is more than most people do anymore. I will say one thing that new parents welcome is giftcards (to buy diapers and wipes and formula) and giftcertificates (for food so they can take a break from cooking and maybe have a date night). But again you shouldn't feel obligated to send anymore presents.
Reply:is the baby your grandchild? God-child? neice? nephew?

cousin?

neighbor's/co-worker's friends baby?

it depends.. how do YOU feel about it???
Reply:If you feel like you want to do it then go for it as long as you can afford it.
Reply:let me just say don't overdo it and by that i mean overspend.
Reply:It's a nice gesture if you'd like to help out the couple, but you don't need to feel pressure to give a lot of things for baby. You may consider sending a bouquet to their home for congratulations and acknowledging that you heard the great news :)
Reply:No need 2 unless you want to or you think they need the help. Sounds like your plenty generous already.
Reply:i wouldn't but you could ask her and see if they need something else. Cause most people always get the same gift as someone else.
Reply:You may want to bring something small when you come to see the baby for the first time. You have already given gifts and nothing is required but maybe flowers for mom or something small for the couple. If there is an older sibling, you may want to bring a small toy for them.
Reply:Honestly its all up to you. Some people are more generous then others. I also think it depends and how well you know this person of course. If you want to get them another gift go right ahead. But dont feel like you have to cuz your dont have to
Reply:That is a personal choice. It would not be rude if you did not. If the family did get another gift I am sure they would be thrilled but I am sure they do not expect one.
Reply:Its up to you. Since you just sent something before the baby came, you can easily just send a congratulations card.
Reply:If you can afford it.

If you don't have the extra, 2 gifts already is sufficient.
Reply:I find that gift giving has gotten totally out of hand. I truly feel that one gift per occassion is sufficient unless it is family and you can afford more than one gift. As you have already given two gifts then I don't feel it is neccesary to give another. As the new baby probably has received numerous gifts a nice idea may be to bring the new mother something small on your first visit, a book or bath product to relax with or even some flowers
Reply:i wouldn't. but that is me. i usually give a gift at the baby shower and that is it.
Reply:Unless u r really close to the mother, I would say NO to more gifts!
Reply:Depends on your relation. Normally, if you're a family member - you send a gift to the hospital or to their home when they get home from the hospital.

If you're not a family member, it would be nice but certainly not necessary. It's already been very thoughtful of you to send 2 gifts. A nice, cheap idea. I gave a friend one of those "make baby handprints" kits. I found one from Wal-Mart on sale for $5. She loves it. And she used it when her baby was a week old. I gaurantee they'll appreciate that gift as much as any. I know I would.
Reply:I give several. And coupons for diapers to boot. Babies are expensive.
Reply:Etiquette would say no. But if you are close or family, and can afford it, sure! There's no rules on when you have to stop buying for a baby. I love receiving gifts for my kids out of the blue.
Reply:its up to you and how close you are to them. If family, send an outfit or something small. Other than that, remember Christmas and Baby's 1st birthday, christening, etc is all within the first year too.
Reply:Well, why not call and see if there's anything that you could possibly help out with baby product wise. If you can spare it, if not, then you've already done your job. :)
Reply:You are not required to bring anything to the hospital for the baby. You've already given two great gifts. But, if you want to pick up something, of course, it's OK. It's also very nice to pick up something for the new mommy...if you visit on day 2 or 3, she can have real food :)

What is the best cookie company for holiday gifts?

I want to send my in-laws like a cookie bouquet or something along those lines. Which company has the best tasting cookies? I'd like them also to have holiday delivery options too (ie cute tins, baskets, etc).

Thanks!

the ones from nieman marcus they are so good and rapped well.;
Reply:Home made!!!
Reply:www.dancingdeer.com --- some of the best cookies you'll ever have, beautifully wrapped and presented, affordable, and all natural. These are the only cookies not handmade by my own hands that I will send as gifts.

Are Monetary Gifts Taxable to the Recipient?

I know the maximum amount you can give (if single) is $12,000 in 2007. But does the recipient have to declare that gift as income and pay taxes on it?

Are Monetary Gifts Taxable to the Recipient?
Nope... "Tis better to recieve than to give" This is what my tax professor used to always say...Only the donor pays tax once they pass a certain threshold of 12k a year now to the same individual.
Reply:There is no limit on the amount a person can give. If the gift is over $12,000 in a single year, then the DONOR must file a gift tax return to report the gift. If there is a gift tax due, then the DONOR must pay the tax. The DONEE never pays the tax. The donor can give up to $1,000,000 of gifts in his/her lifetime before they would have to pay any gift tax. This is in addition to the gifts that fall under the $12,000 annual exclusion, which are not reportable.

Jim Kirby, CPA
Reply:No. IRS publication 950.
Reply:The person who receives the gift of any amount does not pay any federal tax or report the gift (unless it is from foreign sources).

There may be state tax. Check at your state web site.
Reply:No, gifts are not taxable to the recipient. And you can receive gifts from as many different people as you'd like and still pay no tax.

If a gift is over $12,000 - that does incur a possible tax - but not to you. The overage is subtracted from the giver's estate tax exemption, so in most cases, there won't be any tax determination until the giver's death.

A giver can give these $12,000 gifts to as many different people as he/she would like. More power to you if you are the recipient of such generosity!

What gifts do you suggest I give to my mother to make her feel young and happy?

She recently suffered a heart-attack. Want to cheer her up.

What gifts do you suggest I give to my mother to make her feel young and happy?
A little Blue Bird of Happiness. Gift shops usually have small glass or crystal "Blue Birds". They are meaningful to many older women and they enjoy receiving them when they are recovering from irreparable damage to their body or Self or "femininity" images. It's a Disney - like hearkening back or an understandable emotional reflection back to our little girl hopes and dreams. She would treasure it for the rest of her life and especially so because it came from her son. (And nag her endlessly to do all of her cardiac rehab activities as prescribed.)

Reply:I am terribly sorry about your mother. I wish her and your family luck during this time.

I would say a good way to cheer her up(if you have the money) is to wine and dine her. Take her out and get her a pretty new outfit. Send her to the spa/salon to get a massage and her hair and/or makeup done. Take her to a nice restaurant and enjoy a pleasant evening with good conversation. It's a good time to open up about your life and ask her about hers. Just make a somewhat typical(nothing too crazy) but fun and comfortable day.

Good luck and I'm sure whatever you decide to do, as long as it's thoughtout and comes from the heart, your mother will love and appreciate it.
Reply:Sorry about your mom. %26lt;hug%26gt;

Is there anything that she just loved to do when she was younger but stopped having time to do it because of raising you and your siblings and well...life? Ask around to other family members and then set something up that you can do together. Not knowing how recovered she is...I guess it would be wise to stay away from anything where she couldn't quite handle it physically yet.

In general...something light and funny to get her mind off of her health is always a good idea. They say laughter is the best medicine, after all.

Good luck. I'm sure whatever you come up with you mom will appreciate.
Reply:Awww, I'm so sorry. A pretty summer dress.

Unless your mom hates dresses. What type of woman is she?

Just don't get her a knick knack or something she hangs on her wall. I dread the day I reach the age where people think thats what I want.

What are some cool xmas gifts i can make?

Help! i've already have made mix cds, bath salts, framed photos for past holidays... i have a big hipster list to give to, so my gifts need to be as fab as possible!! Any funky ideas for money-challenged xmas gifts?

What are some cool xmas gifts i can make?
Oh man, here I go craft-pushing again... ;)

Quick, easy, and remarkably low-cost: Check out the tutorial on making incense at candlesupply.com. I started making incense in the past year and am addicted, and I love blending scents--I have regular customers for my strawberry spice cheesecake and vanilla sandalwood sticks...

And if you get some good-sized needles, some bulky yarn, and a good quick-start book (or website--there are plenty!) it's not at all too late to knit up some scarves! Perhaps nothing fancy, but a basic garter-stitch scarf in a chunky yarn can easily be popped out in a day or two (I recommend stockpiling movies, though...)
Reply:Good ideas on this site http://www.RobertsCritterCreators.com
Reply:I have the perfect thing... Make jewelry! There are lots of patterns for quick jewelry with beads and wire. It's not at all complicated, and makes a welcome gift. All the supplies can be easily obtained at Micheals, Joann's or even Wal-mart. With a couple packages of beads, a package of ear-hooks, a package of head / eye pins a pair of round-nose pliers (your biggest investment, $5), and a pair of wire cutters, you have the materials to make earrings for several of your friends and all for less then $20. Look on the web for patterns.
Reply:I would agree with the previous that jewelry is a good creative gift. However, that can get very expensive. ( I spent $35 on one necklace this year.)

One thing I did for three people this year is I made fleece tie blankets. They are very simple and take no time at all. You can finish one blanket in about an hour. I made them in ranges from a lap blanket to one to fit a twin size bed. If you shop around you can get the fleece on sale for next to nothing. I usually use one piece of pattern and one piece of solid. Another neat touch you can do is to have them embroidered with the person's name. Sometime this only costs about $5. They are very warm blankets.

All you need is 2 pieces of fleece the same length, 1 pair of scissors, and your own two hands.

1. Lay the fleece out flat in layers. Matching up all the sides. Some material is not cut the same width. If adjustment is needed just trim the sides to match.

2. Cut the corners off in a square. The square should be about the length of the scissors.

3. Cut three strips about the width of your thumb or 1" from the edge of the fabric to the same length of your square. This makes the 1st three ties for that side.

4. Taking both pieces of fabric from the first strip wrap them around your finger.

5. Pull the tops of the strips up through the bottom to form a knot.

6. Push the knot to the bottom of the strip.

7. Do steps 4-6 for the other two strips.

8. Repeat steps 3-7 for all sides of your squares. These strips will secure your blanket for the cutting of the rest of the blanket.

Once all your sides are secure, all you have to do is cut the

strips all the way down each side. Then you can sit and watch

your favorite movie as you tie knots. It keeps you warm as you tie it. :)
Reply:last year, I explored the idea of a 8x10 shadow box, and glue gun. at the local bargain store i found seashells in a net bag, those shinny round flat stones, and i had some ribbons, and white small pearl (wedding sprays- the kind you may make a veil with). I put all the ingreidients together, formed a design at low cost- a matter of just a few dollars, and glued my design inside the black velvet shadow box. It looked like an exclusive gift i spent much more on, and I thouroughly enjoyed the whole creative experience. So much so I made three of them. The recipients were extremely Pleased.

I hope this helps...and good luck, and hope you have a fine Christmas.
Reply:You are very creative and I respect that you are wanting to make things... they mean more. I think so..

Make those jars that have the cookie mix in them, or the brownie mixes or bread mixes in the jar. They are layered.

I had somethings dropped off once... they dropped off a 2 liter of soda and a package of popcorn tied together. It was a cute idea. It had some nifty wording with it, but I forget.

Those jars of baked things are cool though.
Reply:what other solution in the winter time! buy some hot water bottles and sew/knit/whatever as a nice cover for the hot water bottles. kids especially like ones with teddy bear coverings and stuff. it'll keep the recievers warm and snug-hot water bottles don't cost to much, i did it last xmas with 5 pounds per bottle
Reply:um...not only money challenge but time challenge too.

I think SOAP making. It's less messy than candles making, I tried candles making, the clean up is a pain~!

CARD making, or make some bookmarks too.

Make a CANDY WREATH, buy some candies, tie them on the wreath (can be brought from craft store). I see people making this before.

SALT DOUGH models, it's the lowest cost crafts.

What is a good way to give people Valentine gifts without spluring?

I was thinking maybe cute friendship rings I found that we had when we were kids. Flowers, are a possibility but I can only spend so much on a number of people. Any easy homemade gifts that don't look cheap and or a squalor. Thank you!!

What is a good way to give people Valentine gifts without spluring?
here is what I would do. Go to the craft store and find somethings to paint OR make bubbles to hang which is fun. You need ballons (round ones), colorful yarn, glue.

You Blow up the ballon to whatever size you want

Put all the glue in the bowl.

Take the yard and put some in a bowl without tangling it. Normally I take the ball and put in on one side of the bowl and drag the yarn through the bowl as I use it. The yarn needs to be totally soaked with glue

With the glue wet yarn wrap it around the ballon in a diiferent directions. So you can still see the balloon and don't use all the yarn. There should be space where you can see in and there doesnt have to be a pattern unless you want one.

Wait for it to dry.

Pop the balloon and carefully pick the pieces off. At the top put sting to hang it.

Now you can see inside the ball you have made. Inside you can put a picture. Get pink grass and put valentine candy in it. Stuff a small beanie baby in there OR real/silk flowers and make an arangement on the inside

It can hang from anywhere and can be used as a decoration in a childs room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom. etc

I have seen this same project only people use clear spray paint instead of glue and spray in on the yard and balloon.
Reply:Spluring is a made up worth that I'll take to mean spewage of bliss. Thus, don't give large females vibrating valentines cards if you dont want to get your shoes wet.

What types of origami creations would make good gifts for coworkers?
Modular origami coasters, if beverages are allowed.

The bit with the cranes is a group of 1000 cranes. This is taken to a temple to be a token of 1000 prayers. I understand that it's not "official" until it's in a temple.

There are also ways to incorporate single cranes in origami bookmarks, origami envelopes and origami chopstick sleeves (which could also be used for pens or pencils). Any of these would serve at tokens of effort without getting in the way of work-space.

All twelve signs of the oriental zodiac and the western zodiac might be used *inside* the photo-type mugs or tumblers to hold pencils or a small plant (or fake plant).
Reply:None that I can think of.
Reply:A crane! Totally. They are like the epidime (spe?) of origami! Plus the Japenese believe that origami cranes can give good luck.

The one dollar tokens that casinos use make a nice collectable. Even though almost all slot machines are now TITO(ticket in ticket out) the hotels still have the coins at the cashiers cage. And a lot of the casinos have commerative casino chips too. My favorites though are the "Silver Strike" they are $10 silver coins. There are not very many of the Silver Strike machines around anymore. I do know the Orleans has 1 it's Northeast of the Alligator bar near the entrance to the business center.

Reply:I brought home decks of cards from the hotels I visited my first time out. They're available in any of their gift shops - they've actually been used in the casino. Casinos replace their decks of cards almost every hour, then they repackage them and sell them for a couple of bucks.

Best gifts for female graduating from high school on her way to college?

she is turning 18 in May, graduating later in May and going to college in the fall. we are not super close, she is a friend's daughter.

Best gifts for female graduating from high school on her way to college?
Cash is great. Phone cards are common. One of my family's friends who wasn't close to me got me the Dr. Seuss, "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" book, which was cute, but I have to say I appreciated the cash inside more.

Then again, I don't remember the names of everyone who gave me cash, but I do remember the person that gave me cash and a book. Giving a small item with money is the best way to go--I hated all of those stupid graduation bears or ornaments that are still sitting in a box in my parent's basement. I never even bothered to take them with me.
Reply:Gift card to Target for college dorm linens. Cash is good too, even if you can give only $20 it helps.

How would you ask for monetary only gifts at a baby shower?

On an invitation to a baby shower if the Mommy-to-be only wants money as a gift, how would she word it without being rude?

How would you ask for monetary only gifts at a baby shower?
You don't.

A baby shower is to celebrate the baby's impending arrival. Gifts are gifts... not cash cover charges at the door. If someone can only afford $5, they hunt for something on sale that is worth more.

I think she should tell close family and friends her preferance... but she should also register at a store like babies r us or target or walmart or something like that for things that she does want/need specifically and make sure to note where she is registered (some places give you a little card to put in the invitation).

Maybe the reason you can't think of a way of wording it with out being rude is because the idea itself is rude.
Reply:No matter how you word that it would sound rude. Perhaps tell the hostess that you have set up a college fund account and provide deposit slips.
Reply:It's rude to ask for money only. It makes you look like you're money-grubbing. You can write "cash only" only the invitations, but don't expect it to be well received by everyone. In fact, some people might be insulted at being viewed as an ATM and not show up at all. The only other way around this is to register for the items you really want and need or to return the items you get for cash from the store.
Reply:on the invites ask for no gifts but mention that there will be a wishing well if anyone would like to make a moentary donation, you will find most ppl will give you money
Reply:instead why not make a registry, or just return stuff you get most places will give you store credit.
Reply:What about having a gift-card shower? You can't really ask for money on an invitation, but if ppl ask you what the mommy-to-be really wants or needs tell them money! We wanted gift cards to Target and Babies R Us, which were great. We had them until my son was 5 months old. That way we only used the money on important items, mostly for the baby.
Reply:Personally, I think it would be "tacky" to ask your guests for money. They should be allowed to pick whatever they choose as a shower gift. They want to find things for the baby--not to make a house payment for the dad and mom.
Reply:Unfortunately, I think a baby shower isn't the right venue to suggest a "money only" gift. Weddings are a different matter, but you're choosing to celebrate the birth of a baby with a baby shower and people are coming to help you celebrate so unfortunately it's not up to you what they choose to bring. Rather than money, if there is something big you would like suggest that a group of friends pitch in to buy it, if they are stuck for something to bring. I agree with a lot of the others, in this case, you would be considered rude to ask for money. Family might help out, but asking friends is a bit much.
Reply:i think that is just rude why even have a baby shower then....
Reply:Tell them that the mother already has everything that the baby needs but that money would be appreciated for needs in the future, or for her college fund or something to that extent. chances are though she is going to get gifts anyway. that's just the way things usually work out.
Reply:I think this is very tacky. The point of a baby shower is for the mom to get many of the things she needs for the new baby. Thats why stores have registry's...so that the mom gets what she wants for her new baby. If this mom doesn't need anything new for the baby and just wants money to set up an account then she doesn't need a baby shower. I would be really offended if I got an invitation that said cash or monetary gifts only!
Reply:To ask for gifts at all is rude. Do NOT do it.
Reply:Its poor etiquette to ask for money on an invitation. Did you know that its even poor etiquette to put the "registered at" slip in the invite? Things like these are suppose to be passed around by word of mouth, not written. If someone asks what you want or need for the baby, the hostess and/or your immediate family should inform them of your wishes. Other than that, be thankful for what people offer.

On a side note, many people WILL NOT give cash only because its viewed as impersonal and tacky.
Reply:You don't. it IS rude period.
Reply:why doesn't she just charge an admission to the shower? that way she'll get money and gifts.

sorry- just being sarcastic. there is no good way to word it- that is rude.
Reply:dont put a regisrty in the invitation. you probably will get more things if you do make a regisrty though, you will be suprised how much people will buy for chidren, they probably wont give as much money
Reply:No way to do it without being tacky. But tell your mom, sisters, close friends, etc, that you would prefer cash. They can spread the word.
Reply:Most people want to buy a gift for a baby shower. Its kinda the fun part. What is the reason you want only cash? As long as you register your guests will most likely buy you what you want, so whats the problem?
Reply:Say something like "we would like to pick things out for baby ourselves, so monetary gifts would be ideal"
Reply:Cash only

What gifts from the USA should I take to a family in Spain?

Hey! I'm travelling to Spain this summer, and I'm going to be living with a family there. (A mom, a dad, and two little boys, ages 3 and 5). I want to bring them something from the US (not just like, a necklace or tie, I want to bring something sort of unique to the US, that you can't get in Spain). I don't want to spend too much though.

Since a lot of people are foreigners on here, what would you want as a gift from the US?

Thanks so much!

What gifts from the USA should I take to a family in Spain?
I have lived both in England and America and either way I travel I always bring candy back for my friends. It's cheap and people get a kick out of it.

Try salt water taffy, russell stover chocolate, peanut butter brittle, moon pies... all this stuff is unique to america (but something like snicker bars are everywhere!)

Have fun!!
Reply:Nice handmade portraits or paintings made from photos are always a good gift idea,so have one made from a typically American picture. You can find more such ideas at http://www.paintyourlife.com

all is ""made in china in USA and all around europe you may get something special. for them.

I live in Spain, am mexican, and there is so much things from all over the countries.but all ""made in china."".
Reply:Well u should really put though in what u want to get. Ur right u don't really want to get them a necklace unless its a smaller gift with a gift. First of all I would bring a food dish that is only in the U.S. or a least a recipe. If u really want to get something speacial for them u could get a CD of some one here who sings that u know they don't know so they can listen to some dif music.(unless they don't have Cd players then bring urs andjust play it for them)

How much can I receive p.a. in gifts before paying taxes?

Specifically can I receive 2 gifts (from each parent) of $12k making a total of $24k without having to pay taxes? Or is it just the first $12k that is tax free?

How much can I receive p.a. in gifts before paying taxes?
its 11k from each parent before taxes kick in
Reply:First of all, you will never pay taxes on gifts that you receive. Gift taxes are payable by the donor, in this case your parents. I believe the annual exclusion for gifts is $11,000 per donee, unless it has been indexed again for inflation in 2006, which I don't believe i has. You parent's must elect to "split gifts", meaning that they can each give you $11,000 and not have to file a gift tax return. Also, to qualify for the annual exclusion the gift must be one of a "present interest", meaning that you immediate use of the property. This usually comes into play when a gift is made that that will not benefit the donee until the future, often times a trust.
Reply:The gift tax exclusion for 2006 is $12,000 per individual. You can receive $12,000 from each parent and they will not have a file a gift tax return.

If you receive more than $12,000 from one parent, a gift tax return must be filed, but they can elect to split their gifts so up to $24,000 can be given in total without any tax consequence at the federal level.

If they give more than that, the gift may not be taxable but will eat into their lifetime exemption of $1,000,000. Once they give more than $1,000,000 (for each) they start paying tax. Also, the excess gift will be added to their estate in computing their estate tax.

What are some crafts that make good gifts?

December came all too quickly. I woke up today and realized that it is already December 12th, and I have 12 days to do all of my Christmas shopping/making/etc. However, I really don't know what to get anyone.

I usually like to do some kind of crafty thing in bulk and give everyone in my family one. That has always worked well in the past, and I'd like to do the same this year. I'm short on cash and time this year, however, and I'm having trouble coming up with ideas. My budget for materials is probably about $100, and I have to make things for 10-15 adult women and 3-5 adult men.

I have fairly good jewelrymaking/beadwork skills, I know how to knit (though only the basics), and I can do basic stitching. There is a large craft store nearby that I can get my materials at. Baking is always an option, also, but that tends to be unoriginal.

I have started knitting multicolored ear warmers, but I won't be able to finish enough of them by Christmas.

Ideas are greatly appreciated!

What are some crafts that make good gifts?
You can make the ear warmers for the men %26amp; beaded jewelry for the women. Bead earrings can be quick and simple or a bead pendant on a silk cord. You can personalize them by using the recipient's favorite color(s).

Instead of baked goods you can:

1. Make flavored oil or herb flavored vinegars %26amp; decant them into pretty bottles. Tie cards with recipes/ideas to the bottles with a pretty ribbon. See websites below.

2. Put together the dry ingredients for your favorite cookie recipe in individual jars (i.e. Ball canning jars) %26amp; include instructions.

3. A jar of homemade hot chocolate mix is another option:

powdered milk, cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla powder/cinnamon, pinch of salt - shift together %26amp; put into jars. Proportions of ingredients depend on your taste.

4. Dry ingredients for popcorn flavoring with some conventional or unusual popcorn. (ex. blue corn, organic popcorn - check whole foods)

5. Flavored or caramel popcorn or easy to make candy/brittle/chocolate bark.

Refer to links below.

www.foodnetwork.com is a good place to search for other ideas %26amp; recipes like salad dressings, seasoning mixes, BBQ rubs, Chex mix or granola/trial mix.

6. Bath salts - epsom salts mixed with lavender %26amp; other dried flowers. Stir in a tiny amount of essential oil if desired.

7. Get a soap making kit to make decorative, scented soaps.

Good luck %26amp; happy holidays.
Reply:Gift baskets are always nice...you could do mugs with tea bags or cocoa mix (the dollar stores often have nice mugs and such), some chocolates, and perhaps a knitted or crocheted set of coasters. Or a basket with baking utensils, recipes, and pot holders that you made.

You mentioned jewelry...you could make matching necklace, bracelet, earrings and brooch sets (provided you know how to make all those different types of thing).

By the way, keep working on the ear warmers...you can use them next year!!!

Reply:Yes, the time is short.

um...knitting...I am not sure if you have enough time for 15 person.

$100 is more than enough to buying easy and good materials to diy gifts.

The fastest diy gifts are soap, cookies and shrink plastic key chains. And of course you can buy those ready to use dough from:

http://www.pillsbury.com/

The website has lots of creative ideas to make cookies and decorate them.

Also, I think of wine chains, since you mention beadworks.

Please don't drink and drive.
Reply:Well, I'm making my friends shirts for Christmas. They have our inside jokes on them. I just went to Hobby Lobby and got plain T-shirts, and fabric paint. You can stencil them on there. Go to stencilrevolution.com, I heard they have good tips. It's really not hard. It was a bit expensive though ($28 for supplies and shirts for 8 people). But it's still cool. Or you could make little knitted pillows that are personalized. Just knit a rectangle and fold it over into a pillow. You can also make earrings for the women and do the shirts for the men.
Reply:how about recipes in a jar/ put all dry ingredients for cookies, nut breads, cakes, etc in a decorative or canning jar. cover lid with fabric and ribbon and attach recipe. works great in ;my family, everybody loves them.

Reply:A really neat and special gift is a personalized journal.

Take a composition notebook that you can get at the store for like a dollar or even fifty cents.

Go to any craft or scrap book store that has open stock paper. This is where you can buy just one sheet of paper and not a whole pack.

Choose the paper you want for the cover (you will need two sheets) and then choose the paper you want for the inside (again two sheets of either matching or contrasting paper).

Cover the front and back with the paper you choose and cut it down so that you only have about an inch of over hang and cut the corners off at an angle. Fold and glue that over hang on the inside of the covers.

Take the other two sheets of paper and measure so that they fit the inside almost exactly or with not more than a 1/4 inch in.

Not that the book is covered choose stickers, letters, pictures, three dimensional things, pressed flowers - what ever would mean something to the receiver - to decorate the front and back covers of the book. You can, if you choose even put things into the inside... either just fluff or writing prompts.

This can either be a personal journal or a ping pong journal where you and the person write back and forth to each other.

Enjoy! Email if you have questions.

What kinds of generic gifts do men like?

I need some good gift ideas for men - stuff that any man would like. Just as you can almost always buy bath stuff for women or gift cert to clothes store, what kinds of generic gifts do men like? I'm talking men in the 40+ year old age range. I already have stuff like gift cert to home depot, microbrewery samples etc. Ok guys out there - what kind of generic gift would YOU like to receive? Please try to keep ideas in the $20-$50 range.

What kinds of generic gifts do men like?
Cologne, nail care kit, pajama pants, gift card to Total Wine and More(or some other upscale alcohol beverage store). I think I would try to stay away from the gift card thing though because it seems like you put less thought into it. Most men love getting manicures even though they don't like to admit it. And pajamas are always a safe way to go and you can get a good brand for under 50 dollars. You can get a great nail care kit for under 50 dollars and every man is diligent about taking care of there nails. Good luck!

What is the proper way to invite guests to a child's birthday party and let them know that gifts are optional?

We have friends with very limited funds, and would like them to attend our child's birthday party without having to purchase a gift. We have been invited to parties where the invitation said "Please no gifts" but many people brought gifts in spite of that. We don't want to exclude people who want to bring gifts, and we want everyone to come, even if they cannot afford a gift.

Any suggestion for wording the invitation?

What is the proper way to invite guests to a child's birthday party and let them know that gifts are optional?
Just write "gifts are optional" on the invitation, or don't mention it at all. But don't make a big deal out of it either way.
Reply:It is unneccesary and innapropriate to mention gifts at all in the invitation.

people will choose if they wish to bring gifts, based on personal desire and societal expectations.

most polite people will bring a gift- becuase it is proper ettiquette in our culture. however, they may spend as little or as much as they feel comfortable.

don't concern yourself with your friend's finances- its impolite. they know what they can do.
Reply:I would just say "We are trying to emphasize the personal part of birthdays, like spending time with family and friends, and trying to deemphasize the material part. The best and only gift we will be accepting is your presence at this party." Good luck.
Reply:write that gifts are optional and that there presence is gift enough so please come and help make this a fun birthday for little whats his name
Reply:If you don't want people to bring gifts, then this MUST be indicated - but in a kind and clear way. People have been raised to buy gifts for birthdays, especially children, so it's a tough habit to break. Kids are very bright! Before you send the invites, have a talk with your child. Discuss the less-fortunate with him/her and suggest that, as he/she is very blessed, wouldn't it be nice to ask people to buy something for the pets in shelters, the local homeless shelter, UNICEF (let the kid choose a cause!). Let the child help with the invites by pasting a photo of a shelter, or a pet on the overleaf! On the invitation, you could say: "Jeremy is 5 on Friday and you are invited to share in his celebration. We're serving cake and lunch from 2 to 4 so let us know if you're coming! Jeremy is learning about sharing and he has asked that you do not bring him a present. Instead, he would feel so much happier if you would support the ASFDARG Shelter on 5th avenue. Thank you so much!"
Reply:I would just say that gifts are optional not required.

Hope this helps
Reply:Put on the bottom, "Your presence is the only gift you need to bring"
Reply:I agree with nice girl... just simply put on the imvitation that gifts are optional. And, I think that's very considerate of you to think about this. Sometimes it's hard to accept an invitation to a party if, at the moment, I don't have the money for a gift. I'm sure your sensitivity is appreciated.
Reply:Write......."Gifts are optional and less important than your presence".
Reply:The nicest kid's birthday party with a request I ever sent my kid to was one where the kid asked that instead of gift, a donation to the children's hospital be made. Your child gets a nice certificate and you help out a good cause.
Reply:You could write in the invitation:

Please note that we teach our children to appreciate the small and personal.

Does anybody have any good ideas for gifts for 9 year old cheerleaders?

My wife is my daughter's head cheer coach and we always get the squad a year end gift. Last year we got them pink fleece blankets with the school logo and their name embroidered on them. But we really aren't sure what to get them this year.

What are good christmas gifts for teenagers?
check out your local martial arts school. May of us run holiday package deals. Usually something like X amount of money gets you a 2 month training program and a uniform to wrap and put under the tree. This is a great gift as it promotes health and fitness (to burn of those holiday meals), usually isn't so expensive, and can potentially last a lifetime. It also beats socks by a mile :-) Just be sure to do a little research about the school. Good luck!

Creative ideas for end of the year gifts for students?

What are some creative ideas for gifts to give second grade students at the end of the year? Something sentimental and meaningful. I can not afford to spend a bunch of money, and i am on somewhat of a time crunch.

Creative ideas for end of the year gifts for students?
I made autograph books that my first grade students loved. The autograph books were 4.25 x 5.5 (half the size of a 8.5 x 11 piece of paper).

1. I got a co-worker to take a class picture with my digital camera.

2. Using Microsoft Word I made a cover that said "My Autograph Book" and included a place for each child to write his/her name.

3. Using a copy machine, I printed the cover onto construction paper and cut the paper in half so that I had a printed front cover and plain back cover.

4. Then I printed the class 2 pictures per page on white cardstock, and cut the page in half.

5. To make the pages for autographs I cut pieces of notebook paper in half. Make as many pages as you think your students will need.

6. My school has a binding machine so I cut thin binder combs in half and then bound the front cover, picture, autograph pages, and back cover together. But you could also use staples as your binding method.

7. Towards the end of the school year, I set aside time, over several days, for the students to write in each other's books. It took longer for me and them to write in all the books than I thought. I wrote each them a personal note during this time as well. I also invited any other teachers (PE coach, Librarian, paraprofessional) that worked with my students to visit with us during autograph time.
Reply:My favorite end of year parties were the simple ones. Watch a movie that the kids vote on, and have each child bring something to share with the class (cookies, chips, candy, etc). It's inexpensive and fun for the kids.

I had a teacher once who rewarded good behavior by putting stars into a fishbowl that said "Nacho Average Class". When it was full, we gt nachos during class. This one may not work if there is a time crunch but is a fun idea.

Reply:I realize that it is probably too late for this idea....

I went to a wedding where the favours were fresh herbs in tiny terracotta pots. In coordinated ribbon tied around the pot was a little scroll with a recipe for the herb. My herb was basil and the recipe was for a lemon-basil pasta dish.
Reply:Make a house out of popsickle sticks. Put some cotton balls on the chimney so it will look like smoke coming out.
Reply:Make cookie bouquets and everyone will love them. Easy to make and you can get the sticks at any craft store.
Reply:I made handmade scented soaps. If you go to any crafty type shop, all you need is a mold of about 10 of the same design (it kinda looks like an ice cube tray), then the soap flakes, and an essential oil of the scent you wish to use.

Once the soaps were made (1 per person), then I wrapped it in toule (netting stuff) and tied it with one of those rose twisty things (sorry can't think of the name of what it's called).

As for games, 65 ppl is alot to entertain..... maybe karaoke?

Good luck! :)
Reply:In the bridal section of walmart (in the craft department) or a craft store buy a simple heart shaped lollipop mold, some white candy melting chocolate, some lollipop sticks and the bags. These all together will cost between 8 and 10 dollars and make white chocolate heart lollipops. Tie the bags closed with ribbons the colors of the wedding and put them in a basket for your guests. Two bags of chocolate will probably get you what you need. Good Luck and have fun!

Do you have good ideas for gifts to give a co-worker who is having gastric bypass surgery?

I am thinking of making up a basket full of various items that would be extremely useful and hopefully can help pass time during their recovery. If you have experienced the surgery, or know someone who has, what kind of stuff do you think they would really want/need after coming home from the hospital? Please share your ideas with me. Many thanks in advance!

Ahh that is super sweet and awesome of you. Hmm let me remember what I needed when I first got mine done. If you can find some get those little 1 ounce measurement cups - I used those ALOT to see how much of something I was supposed to be eating. Try and include a little can of whey protein mix. They will need to get extra protein from here on out, and b12 so some b12 tabs might be a good idea along with extra calcium. If they are having it done "open" being cut open get them some supplies to clean and redress the wound. You will defenitely want to include some cards of support to open along the way.. day of hospital visit, day after, week after, month after, etc. They also have this thing called a Bari- Bear which helps you sit up and breathe properly after surgery to help slowly work your abs. http://www.nvo.com/teddytech/bari1buddye... Otherwise just get them a new soft comfortable pillow. And lastly the most important thing you can give is your time. They will be down and feeling like crap for quite a while so go visit them. You can print coupons for time if you want. Lastly, you can get a journal for them to keep track of their progress, include a disposable camera so they can take pictures of the weight coming off as it happens super fast! I lost 20 pounds the week I was in the hospital. No joking. That's all I can think of right now. Good luck and send this person well wishes from someone who has been there.
Reply:I agree with both the vitamins and the spending downtime with that person. Another thing that might be kind of fun to do with them while they're in the hospital is go get the mad libs books. It sounds kind of childish I realize that but oh the fun you will have.
Reply:Hi.my mom had GBS,and we got her roses and a card. You could get the person vitamins (they take them after surgey) or a giftcard to their favorite store. My mom went from a size 24 to a size 4 to 6.So yeah, her whole woredrobe didnt fit anymore. Also shoes.she wore a size 10 and is now an 8 1/2.

just think of the things that person enjoys :)
Reply:My uncle had it done, I made him a homemade card. But that might be a little personal for a co-worker. Are you good friends with them? The best thing to do is just spend time with them during their downtime. I would go with puzzle books, or if they read, maybe a new bestseller?
Reply:crossword puzzles, word searches, magazines, puzzle, paper to doodle on
Reply:Definitely not food!! Maybe get them some puzzle books (don't forget the pencils!), do you know any hobbies they have? Since they are a co-worker, do you know how good their eating habits really are? Not to be a jerk, but a lot of people get gastric bypass so they can lose weight without changing their diet. Maybe a good book on nutrition, not a diet book, a nutrition book, big difference. Will they be recovering at home? How about a trial subscription to Netflix or something like that?

What are the guide lines for gifts to family to reduce tax liability?

Family members would be my children and grandchildren.

What are the guide lines for gifts to family to reduce tax liability?
Gifts to family members are not deductible for income tax purposes. A gift has no affect on your income tax liability.

Gifts up to $12,000 per year per person are exempt from the gift tax.

And if gifting to minors, you may want to consult the Uniform Gift to Minors Act. I do not know what it covers but I believe there is an issue if the gift is over a certain dollar amount. Not a tax liability but an access restriction.
Reply:Gifts to family members won't reduce your tax liability. If you give more than the annual exclusion amount ($12,000 for 2006) you may have to PAY gift taxes.
Reply:anything under $10,000 per year is a non taxable gift.

anything over that is taxable.

What are the most popular birthday gifts for a female friend intrested to become an interior decorator?

My frined's birthday is coming up and I don't have the slightest idea what to get her. She is intrested in becoming an interior decorator. Any ideas?

What are the most popular birthday gifts for a female friend intrested to become an interior decorator?
Books on interior design would be ideal.
Reply:Get her a great art book. Sure a design book is great, but art is the core of design so maybe she'll see a piece in the book and get an inspiration for a room.

Or you can get her a briefcase for her to put her portfolio in so she can show prosepctive clients. And it doesn't have to be black. I mean ,sure black is universal but it can be her favorite color so it represents her personality, too.

Tell her happy birthday from everyone at Yahoo Answers. lol
Reply:for one i am also interested inbecoming an interor decorator. i would like to recieve books on the subject, but i also like the game the sims 2. sure it may seem a little strange to have to do anything with interior design, but you can build and decorate to your liking which makes it even more fun and boasts your creative side.

Do I have to pay capital gains tax for gifts of my ESPP shares?

I am participating in my company's ESPP. I would like to give my family members a gift of shares. It would be considered a disqualifying disposition since it has been less than one year since the offering period. I know that I will have to pay income tax on the discount amount but will I also have to pay capital gains tax if I gift the shares to my family members?

Do I have to pay capital gains tax for gifts of my ESPP shares?
No, you can gift up to $12,000 per person per year without having to pay gift taxes. Now if you sell the shares and give family members cash you would have to pay capital gains taxes on selling the shares. If you give them the shares as long as the FMV of the shares is under $12,000 per person you wouldn't have to file a gift tax return. Even if you did have to file a gift tax return though there is a $1,000,000 liftetime exemption that you use against for gifts in excess of $12,000 per person per year, and it would be only the excess that you would use against the lifetime exclusion.

I exchange gifts a christmas with many people, normally the gifts are very nice but not to expensive.?

I still am planning on doing it again this year, however I do live on a single income and do not have extra funds. Could someone please suggest some gift ideas that I could do that would not look cheap but would be nice and cost very little. The ages of the recipants are from infant to senior citizens. Thanks for your help and suggestions.

I exchange gifts a christmas with many people, normally the gifts are very nice but not to expensive.?
Truthfully I'm kind of in the same boat but with my family they just want me to get them something the whole "it's the thought that counts", however when you say cost very little do you mean $20 a piece, $50, or what? I just go to different malls when sales are going on and go in and look at things like shoes, bags, nice accesories for women and for guys i look for nice shirts, pants, or something handy that they may be interested in. Just try your best to find sales at a department store they will have nice clothes and items going for cheap because they really want to get rid of them. This answer isn't specific but it works better for that broad age range.
Reply:Think about each and every person on your list, what do they really like, their interests. It could be as simple as cooking to hunting. If a person loves cooking buy them a cook book. If a person likes hunting buy them a calender for the next year with wild life on it and so on.

Are you obligated to return gifts given during a relationship after you break up?

If you are given a gift by your partner and then you break up, are you legally required to return the item if he requests it back? Can you be prosecuted if you dont? I live in QLD, Australia.

Are you obligated to return gifts given during a relationship after you break up?
No. A gift is exactly that. A gift. That is why people are encouraged not to give engagement rings as "gifts". If it is given solely as a symbol of pending marriage, if the engagement ends, the ring should be ( and often must be) given back to the buyer. If you gave it at Christmas, they can argue it was a gift and keep it.

Thats here in the USA though. You may have different laws down under, although I doubt you would be arrested for not giving a "gift" back. Most theft laws deal with taking something that is not yours. Something given as a gift is clearly yours, so it couldn't be theft.
Reply:You are not legally obligated. There is a moral obligaiton, however.

In your situation, sell the diamonds and pay off the debts.
Reply:I think the only thing you are required to return is an engagement ring unless he gave it to you on a holiday like Christmas or a birthday because then it is considered a gift.

Tell him to buzz off...then make a list of everything you gave him and all of the bills you paid while you were together and have it ready in case he takes you to court.

What a creep.
Reply:It can depend on the laws where you live . There is a conditional gift, such as to a fiance , where the gift is given in expectation of marriage. If the marriage does not occur then the gifts should be returned.

That is why wedding gifts should be returned if the wedding does not occur , and engagement presents returned if the engagement is called off.

There may be no "conditional gift" provision in the law where you live. I believe an engagement ring should be returned in any case.
Reply:No you are not legally required to return any items given as gifts. Once given they are yours to do with what you wish. However, if it would only be a reminder to you of something sad, you might want to return it to the other person. No you cannot be prosecuted.
Reply:Asking for the return of thing that was given as a gift is just tacky.

Only my opinion.

Guy should be surfing Burleigh Heads anyway.
Reply:The item is a gift. You are not obligated legally or ethically to return a gift.

I can't imagine even asking an old girl friend to return a gift. Besides the leather outfit I gave her wouldn't fit the new girl friend anyway. . .
Reply:As far as Judge Judy is concerned, if it was a gift, no repayment is expected if you break up. If at any time you said, "I'll pay you back" and he can prove that, then you owe him the gift or the money for the gift.
Reply:No, you are not legally obliged to return them, and you can't be prosecuted. He may try to sue you in a civil suit, if he's petty enough, but I doubt he would have much chance of winning. After all, a gift is a gift.

If you really feel uncomfotable about it, you could return it and get him out of your life forever.
Reply:No your not. Legally it was given to you and so the ownership of that item now has been transferred from him to you. You can do anything about it, it is just we really tend to take care of the things that was given from someone we care. If he requested that it will be given back to him, its really up to you. If you think that he needs it more than you do and that he really needs it then it will probably be okay to give it back to him but you are NOT obliged to. And dont worry you will not be persecuted, you did not steal it, it was given to you.

What are a few inexpensive gifts for someone moving into an apartment?

What are some of the most common forgot about items??

What are a few inexpensive gifts for someone moving into an apartment?
I think on the best gift you can give someone moving into a house or apartment is a wall mounted fire extinguisher and a fire blanket.

It could be the gift that saves there life.

It doesn't even matter if they already have them, they can place the new ones somewhere else in there apartment. Plus throw in a bottle of bubbly wine to cerebrate with.

Is it appropriate to give gifts to the lead counterpart on opening night?

I am in a play in the theater. The last show I was in, I gave a small token gift to the counter person, in the role. Just something small and something personal about the show.

Is this still considered to be the norm. Or has this gone by the wayside, and is now tacky?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thank you

Is it appropriate to give gifts to the lead counterpart on opening night?
I always try to bring something relevant to their character as a gift for everyone in cast and crew or I will do thank you cards, some people bring flowers or snacks if they are okay backstage, I think it's a nice gesture to show your appreciation of your fellow performers and artists.
Reply:That's absolutely fine, just as long as you're not a creep about it. It's an appreciation of a fellow artist and fellow person!

What are some good ideas for Cmas gifts for my 11 and 15 year old brothers?

These kids have lots of the usual video games and electronics, and they already have boyhood staples like fishing poles, BB guns, etc., so I can't get them that stuff...

What on earth could I give them that would really please them? I don't want to do a tired old gift card. What gift would have made you really happy at that age? I have about 40 bucks to spend on each.

What are some great gifts to buy a seven year old little girl?

I am going Christmas shopping for my daughter today. What are some good ideas for Christmas. What is amount is too much toys? What is a resaonable amount?

What are some great gifts to buy a seven year old little girl?
I don't think there is an amount that is specifically defined as "too much" toys for a child. Think about your budget, how much she plays with the toys she already has, and what she might appreciate to have the most. If you think you've hit the limit on how many toys you want her to have, buy her some clothes as well. Another idea since she is 7 would be to give her a gift card. I know she's your daughter, but at that age she would probably really enjoy to pick out her own clothes. My neice is 7 and really has her own opinion about her clothes. As far as toy ideas are concerned, my neice asks for the Bratz dolls, anything to do with make-up, purses, barbies, etc. You really can't go wrong if you go to Toys-r-Us and buy things in her age range. Hope this helps! Good Luck!
Reply:Dolls
Reply:I bought my 8 year old daughter some games, puzzles, a camera, accessories to go with some toys she already has, new jammies, Bratz styling head, TMX Elmo--that's all that's coming to mind. She's a bit of a tomboy though so she's not really into dolls and "girlie" things too much.

Some other ideas are a doll house with accessories (people, furniture), play makeup, Polly Pockets, and dress-up clothes.

I don't know what is too much. I'm sure I bought too many for my 2 girls but I start early and then lose track of how much I've bought. Hey, it's only once year right?
Reply:Anything over 25.00 is to much I think. Barbies, Brat Dolls, fake food and dishes, dress up clothes and jewelry
Reply:I believe that when it comes to Christmas and little children there is no amount that is too much:) Now that doesn't mean that you should go broke.
Reply:by price? maybe around $30 to $50.

depends on your budget.

If your budget is small, then things like plastic jewelry is a great idea.

or coloring books and crayons.

if your budget is higher, anything from the *pink* aisle in walmart or some store like that will be just great.
