What are good gifts to give a French host family?

They live in Nantes, and I'm not sure what French people like, or what would be an appropriate gift according to French culture. Any tips?

What are good gifts to give a French host family?
The best thing to give your French host family is a slice of life from America. It would be utterly charming for you to make a small basket filled with American items such as an American DVDs, american candy or bubblegum, chocolate, bath products or jellys and jams. They would find American items charming simply because they are unique and not part of their own culture. To make it easier on yourself, you could buy the basket over there and just fill it with the goodies once you get yourself situated.
Reply:Bonjour well, it depends how much you know them, if they speak English, their age, etc...

Something which never fails and to stay on the safe side,is a large bouquet of flowers (you can always find a flower shop somewhere) accompanied by the most exquisite chocolates, (on the duty free).

Bon séjour !
Reply:Bring them a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20.
Reply:A nice gift would be something that directly relates to whichever state or region you are from (I assume you're an American).

Food and drink which are local specialities are appreciated by the French who understand the value of "terroir ," (the special characteristics of geography that bestow individuality upon the food and drink.)

I lived for many years in Missouri and my European friends were surprised to find we had wineries there. I brought bottles of Missouri wine (which is really very good) as gifts and people were fascinated by it.
Reply:another goof gift would be a book (coffee table ones for instance) on your state or the US of a particular aspect of teh US or your state you are fond of.

It is a wonderful opportunity to exchange on culture and differences that make the world such a wonderful place. Nantes has been elected the best city to live in France (similar to Colorado Springs) for quality of life etc, close to the sea and lots to do, Enjoy !
Reply:When i went on an exchange i bought my host family things that they can't get in France, i.e easter eggs

american football shoes
