Need ideas for gifts. A friend at work lost her husband, her home and her show dogs in a fire.?

I am trying to gather ideas for our department, about 18 women, to give her for a housewarming gift when she moves back into her newly rebuilt home. We were thinking of a laundry basket filled with household type items, like tin foil, paper towels, cleaning products, etc...Any suggestions?

I think yours is a great idea. It's stuff that every one needs. Also some Bath towels/washcloths, a welcome mat, mailbox. Even a subscription to a magazine is a nice touch to throw in. How about some coupons for delivery pizza. You could include a gift card to Target or Lowes. That way she can go pick up some stuff that she might need, but didn't get.
Reply:What you got to think about is: Is this the sort of thing you would want if this had happened to you? If you had just lost everything that ever meant for you, what could possibly help to get over the loneliness she must feel now?

Is it possible for you to get her a puppy? One similar to the kind she had, not exactly the same, or it may be seen that you are trying to replace the two she lost.

It sounds like she lost everything, give her something to motivate her.

I lost my partner (heart attack) and 3 weeks later my dog had to be euthanized. I didn't feel like living anymore, I spent weeks shut up in my house. Then my friends got together and bought me a puppy, it actually came from the stray dog home. It gave meaning back to my life, there was this little bit of fluff and bones who needed me. I haven't looked back and he has brought me many happy years.
Reply:A gift card to Target would be nice.
Reply:All I have to input here is a word of caution on getting her a puppy.

Most people that do shows and AKC events can not simply have someone else get them a puppy. It just doesn't work that way. We put a lot of time into selecting the right pup so don't think you can do that for her.

Be supportive, you might want to get puppy toys to encourage her to get a new pup but should discuss the idea of getting a pup with her and test the waters. If she is receptive, the toys may be the spuring she needs to get one.

I would suggest if you decide she needs a pup and that is what you want to get her, you chip in and get the toys and give her a note saying, "We have collected $____ to assist in purchass of a new puppy".

I think she may want to wait but for some dog owners, such as myself, not having a dog is really not a good thing for a long period of time.
Reply:Maybe like a scrapbook of her friends, family, dogs...........I guess the best gift would be to be there for her too! Really Sorry!!!
