Cash is great. Phone cards are common. One of my family's friends who wasn't close to me got me the Dr. Seuss, "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" book, which was cute, but I have to say I appreciated the cash inside more.

Then again, I don't remember the names of everyone who gave me cash, but I do remember the person that gave me cash and a book. Giving a small item with money is the best way to go--I hated all of those stupid graduation bears or ornaments that are still sitting in a box in my parent's basement. I never even bothered to take them with me.
Reply:Gift card to Target for college dorm linens. Cash is good too, even if you can give only $20 it helps.
Reply:Every birthday means she is getting older! So, why don’t you “immortalize” her at 18 by getting a really cool-looking portrait made from her best photo? Just send the photo(s) to the professional and creative artists at http://www.paintyourlife.com and they will make very unique and classical-looking portraits or paintings out of them! You can send them instructions to send the portrait directly to her – with a personalized message from you!

This company also has a studio for oil paintings reproductions. In case you are looking for an affordable gift urgently, you can take a look at their 'stock on sale'. Visit http://www.oil-paintings-reproductions.c...
