Can spiritual gifts they talk about in the Bible actually be received?

I'm a Christian and if your just here to bash it then leave. I was just wanting to know if gifts, like speaking in tongues, are real.

Can spiritual gifts they talk about in the Bible actually be received?
Yes they can, but you want to wait until God gives you the real thing. There is a lot out there in Charis-mania and some is real and some is false you just have to discern for yourself if it is real.

As far as tongues goes, don't listen to naysayers. The Acts 2 account in my opionion was a known language BUT (God can be as diverse as he wants with what he does) I will just give you a couple of scriptures and let you decide:

A second type of Biblical tongues (prayer language?)

1 Cor 14:2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, NO ONE UNDERSTANDS HIM; he utters mysteries with his spirit.

A third type of Biblical Tongues (probably public)

1 Cor 12:10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
Reply:Tongues are for a sign to them that BELIEVE NOT; prophesying for them which believe (1 Cor.14:22 below).

God is not the author of confusion (1 Cor.14:33 below).

When the Scriptures (Acts 2:3-11) speak of “tongues”, “tongues” refers to “languages”

1 Cor.14:22 Wherefore tongues (languages – Acts 2:4, 6) are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying [serveth] not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

1 Cor.14:33 For God is not [the author] of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

  1. You made the statement that "tongues" in the Bible can refer to languages, and I agree. The gift of tongues in New Testament times was the gift of being able to speak so as to be understoond by someone of a different language. It was both a sign of God's power and a necessary tool for the apostles to take the gospel to the world.

Likewise, miraculous healings and the casting out of demons were signs that the apostles were speaking God's message because God backed up their preaching with miracles.

Those kinds of miracles are rare today, but we have something that people did not have in the first century: The bible, complete and widely available. As I show in my book, you can prove through fulfilled prophecy that the Bible is inspired by God, and that provides the proof that the Bible is God speaking and that the message of the Bible is from God. The miracle of fulfilled prophecy that proves the Bible serves the same purpose as the miracles that proved the apostles were delivering a message from God. It is the same message, but a different proof.

Thus, there is not the same need for miracles today to promote the gospel as there was in the first century.
