What gifts are given to characters in Lord of the Rings?

Specifically in the Tolkien novels, what gifts or presents are given and to whom? I have read all three books but can only remember what Bilbo gave away.

What gifts are given to characters in Lord of the Rings?
Well, when the fellowship leaves Lothlorien, they received gifts.

1. Each receives an elven cloak, and Lembas, the elven bread

2. Frodo receives the Phial of Galdriel, which has the Light of Earendil in it.

3. Sam received elven rope, and a box with a seed for a tree, and soil in it.

4. Merry and Pippin received sheaths for their knives,

5. Legolas received a bow of the Galadhrim, and a quiver

6. Gimli asked for a hair from Galadriel's head, and was given three

7. Boromir is given a belt

8. Aragorn is given a sheath for Anduril

And yes, Frodo received his mithril coat and Sting from Bilbo as a gift. And technically, the Ring would count as a gift, also.

And this may not count, but Merry and Pippin were given armor when they swore fealty to Rohan and Gondor.

Oh, and Aragorn received a green stone. If I remember correctly, it was in the shape of an eagle with its wings spread out.

Also, Aragorn received Anduril in Rivendell. I think.

I'm not sure if you meant only The Lord of the Rings, because you merely said "in the Tolkien novels" so here's more.

In the Silmarillion:

Beleg received Anglachel from King Thingol, who received it from the Dark Elf, as a tribute of sorts,

Morgoth stole other gems when he stole the Silmarils, and gave them to Ungoliant, who ate them

In the Dagor Bragollach, Finrod Felagund was about to be overwhelmed, when a group of men made a spear wall around him, and they hacked their way out, and saved him. He in turn gave Barahir, their leader, a ring. Which later became an heirloom of the line of Isildur.

After the deaths of Beren and Luthien, their son received the Silmaril

A group of Men that were Elf-friends were given a land to live on which was between Valinor and Middle-earth, but closer to Valinor, and it was called Numenor. Not sure if that counts.

The Eldar brought flowers and fountains as gifts to the Numenoreans

The Firstborn also brought birds of song, fragrant flowers, herbs of great virtue, and a seed of the White Tree, which would become symbol of Numenor and later, Gondor.

King Thingol "received" a Silmaril from Beren, and Beren was in turn, allowed to marry Thingol's daughter, Luthien

Sauron aided the Elves in their pursuit of knowledge as a "gift" but that probably doesn't count, because he was tricking them.

Mim the Dwarf was with his sons, when the band of Turin came upon them, and he offered to them his house in return for his life, and his offer was accepted. Mim stayed with them, and later, he was captured by Orcs, and he offered to take the Orcs to his house, where Turin was.

Luthien gave up immortality to be with Beren.

Idril also gave up immortality to be with Tuor.

Huan, the wolf-hound of Valinor was given to Celegorm by Orome.

The Hobbit:

Thorin gave Bilbo his mithril coat.

The Elves of Mirkwood and the Men of Dale received gold and treasures after the Battle of the Five Armies

Bilbo was given treasures after the Battle of the Five Armies

Bilbo gave Bard the Arkenstone for the Men and Elves to have something with which to bargain with the Dwarves.

After Thorin died, Bard laid the returned the Arkenstone to Thorin's body.

Other:

The land of what is now Rohan was given to the Horse-people after they came to Gondor's aid. I don't remember exactly where that's written...I think it's in the appendices.

Bilbo gave his book to Frodo, who added his adventure to it, and he then gave it to Sam.

Frodo also gave Sting to Sam, which became an heirloom for his family.

Theoden (or another king of Rohan) gave Saruman the keys to Orthanc.

Cirdan gave Gandalf his Ring of Power, when he arrived in Middle-earth.

The appendices say that Merry and Pippin received gifts from Eowyn, Eomer, and (I think) Aragorn
Reply:Believer has most of them, but I'd like to add some.

By Galadriel: Merry and Pippin also recieved belts. They all got the Elvin pins, too.

All the guests at Bilbo's birthday party recieved gifts(sorry, it's not fresh enough in my memory to give individual ones, except Ham Gamgee recieved a sack of

potatoes).

Goldberry was givin the (lillies?) and pin by Tom Bombadil.

Gandalph recieved Shadowfax as a gift from Theoden.

Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli each were givin their choice of battle raiment by Theoden.

And there were more gifts in Return of the King, but I don't remember at the moment.
Reply:Bilbo gave the one ring, his sword Sting, and his mithril armor to Frodo.
